I'm halfway through the original series. I haven't seen the new Eva movies things but from the few pics I've seen of 3.33, it looks very different o.o

Yeah, totally. Sadly, it's four movies, and only the first two are "out" right now. Also make sure you see the original ending from episode 21 on, before you watch the director's cut of them. Cool perspectives.

The bottom line is: WATCH THE ORIGINAL SERIES.
The rebuild is utter shit. Yeah, the animation is spiffy and they've redesigned everything to be cooler, but they basically raped the plot and left the psychological aspect to die in a gutter.

I think I get what he said; basically Shinji has become a meme?

The original series and its pseudo-psychological aspect and gratuitous use of religious imagery isn't all that great either.

First commenter here: I just got back from watching the original series and I must say, I think I liked the ending more than anything else. Its like the entire battle for the world mech plot was leading to two episodes of a subliminal maelstrom of Freudian concepts of the human psyche. And the strange part is, I didn't even feel like I got cheated out of an actual conclusion to the plot, even though I kinda was.

BETTER BOTTOM LINE: Watch both yo. The original series first though.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a masterpiece ( I know that word gets thrown around alot, and joins "epic" in the pit of bastardized words, but I sincerely mean it.)

The mix of action, angst, existential philosophy, faux symbolism, drama, and characters seem like they wouldn't work in theory, but it just does somehow and it's awesome.

I've only seen 1.11 so I can't judge the others yet, but it was incredibly enjoyable. The improved animation was beautiful, and I enjoy the fresh look at the series.
